Tiger Mountain Vineyards, a boutique North Georgia winery, cultivates all of its grapes and produces all of its handcrafted wines in the mountains of Rabun County. The winery, along with its historic Red Barn Cafe, is jointly owned by four native Georgians, John and Martha Ezzard and John and Marilyn McMullan.
Georgia's oldest family farm vineyard featuring European style wines, from the rare ancient Petite Manseng to Cabernet Franc and Malbec. The vines were planted in 1995 and the first vintages date to 1999.
The 2,000 foot altitude, cool mountain nights, and well drained slopes, which consist of the decayed granite soils of the ancient Blue Ridge, are an ideal terrior for certain European vinifera and the native American Norton. A divided trellis system prevents excessive canopy, allowing sunlight and movement of air through the vines. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the wine is made using traditional European small winery methods of fermentation and barrel aging.
Naturally Georgia is Tiger Mountain Vineyard's only satellite tasting room. |
